Walk South Wales, 16 Lily Way, Rogerstone, Newport, Wales, NP10 9LG

Frequently asked questions

What time will I be picked up/dropped off?

Pick up time is 8.30am unless otherwise stated/agreed. Depending on which walk you are going on and traffic, you will be dropped off at your chosen location early to mid-afternoon.

Can I change the pick up time?

Providing you are the only group on the tour, then yes absolutely. Email enquiries@walksouthwales.co.uk to check and agree a suitable time.

Where can I get picked up from?

We can pick up from any Cardiff/Newport area address up to an approximate 20 mile radius. If you are going to Pen-y-fan or the waterfalls then we will also pick you up from Brecon Beacons locations. Please email enquiries@walksouthwales.co.uk to check pick up location. You will also be dropped off at your chosen location.

Do you offer discounts for children and over 65?

If your group includes children under 16 or adults over 65 please book as normal and pay the standard price. If you then contact us at enquiries@walksouthwales.co.uk we can refund 20% of the cost of each under 16 or over 65 year old.

How fit do I need to be?

This depends on which walk you choose. Each walk has a difficulty rating. Easy is a largely flat walk with no hills. Moderate is a mixture of flat with some uphill walking. Challenging is a walk that will involve climbing a mountain and requires a reasonable level of fitness. On all walks you will dictate the speed at which you'd like to walk and how often you'd like to stop. There is no time limit for each walk and if you'd prefer to spend hours regularly stopping and enjoying the amazing scenery, fantastic!

Will there be other people on the tour?

Our standard tour vehicles can seat 6 people so if there are 2 people in your party then there could potentially be another 4 people from another party. However, if you are a party of 4-6 people then it’s likely you will be the only party on the tour.

Can I bring my dog?

Absolutely. All the walks are dog walking heaven. However, if the tour is full you will have to have your dog on your lap in the vehicle.

Are the walks suitable for children?

We regularly have children of all ages on our walks who have a thoroughly enjoyable time in the great outdoors. Please read the walk information and difficulty rating to help you determine if your child can complete and more importantly will enjoy your chosen walk. If for example you feel climbing Pen-y-fan may be a challenge too far (you do see dozens of children of all ages at the top), then perhaps the Coast Path walk or Waterfalls walk will be more suitable as they are largely flat walks. Children usually love walking behind the waterfalls on our waterfalls walk, or paddling in the sea and exploring rock pools on our Coast Path walk.

What if I need to cancel?

You can cancel up to 48 hours before your walk is due to begin for a full refund. Please email enquiries@walksouthwales.co.uk  to cancel. You will receive a cancellation confirmation email and your refund will be processed within 48 hours.

What if the weather is bad?

As the saying goes ' there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad equipment'. We try and go out in most weathers and being out in unpleasant weather can be exhilarating. However, if the weather is truly atrocious then you can cancel for a full refund. This will need to be done the night before the walk is due to commence. If the weather is bad and a mountain walk is booked then it's recommended to change the walk to the waterfalls walk  which is a low-level walk and incorporates the waterfalls in their full majestic flow after a bit of rain. This can be done by emailing enquiries@walksouthwales.co.uk or calling the number in your booking email.  Alternatively, if bad weather appears at the last minute then a decision to amend the walk can be made at pick up.

What do I need to bring?

We would recommend checking the weather forecast beforehand and dressing accordingly. It’s always worth bringing an additional layer with you and a raincoat is essential when walking in the Brecon Beacons where the weather can be unpredictable and change quickly. A good pair of walking shoes/boots is highly recommended, especially if you are going to the Brecon Beacons. Snacks and drinks are provided but if you want something more substantial you are welcome to bring a packed lunch.

How long will it take to get to our walking location?

All walks are within approximately a 1 hour drive of the Cardiff/Newport area.

Do you cater for Stag/Hen do's?

Yes absolutely. Please email enquiries@walksouthwales.co.uk if you are coming as a stag or hen and we can look to tailor the trip to your requirements.
